Privacy Policy

Little Menders (“we”, “us”) is a marketplace that connects people who have something broken with local people who can fix it. This page explains what personal information we collect, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it plain.

What we collect

• Account details: your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider, never in readable form). If you choose “Continue with Google”, we receive your email address and name from Google. We don’t receive your Google password.
• Profile details: the display name and other information you choose to add, including, if you set up as a repairer, your skills, categories and description.
• Location: an address or area you type in, and, if you press “use my location”, your device’s coordinates. We use this to match jobs and repairers that are near each other.
• Things you post: repair jobs, photos of the items, proposals, messages between users, and reviews.
• Technical data: our hosting and security systems log basic request information (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability.

How we use it

• To create and run your account and let you sign in.
• To show jobs to nearby repairers and repairers to nearby customers.
• To let users send proposals, message each other and leave reviews.
• To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
• To email you about your account or activity you asked for.

Our legal bases under UK GDPR are: performing our contract with you (running your account and the marketplace), our legitimate interests (security and improving the service), and, where we ask for it, your consent (such as sharing your device location).

What other users can see

Little Menders is a public-facing marketplace. Jobs you post, including the description, photos and the location text you enter, can be seen by other signed-in users. Your public profile, proposals and reviews are visible to the people they concern and to other users. Please don’t put your exact home address, phone number or other sensitive details in a job description or photo. If you use your device location, the exact coordinates are stored so we can match you with people nearby, but they are only ever shown back to you. Other users see the address text you typed and a rough area of a few kilometres. If you’d rather not share precise coordinates at all, type a general area instead.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information and we don’t run advertising or analytics trackers. We use these providers to run the service:

• Amazon Web Services for hosting, database, file storage, sign-in and email. Our data is stored in the UK (London region).
• Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect people’s safety.

Cookies and local storage

We only use storage that is needed to keep you signed in and make the site work. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we’ll remove or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we need to keep something to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute. Backups may hold data for a short further period before they expire.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent you have given. Email us at privacy@littlemenders.com and we’ll respond within one month. If you’re unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Little Menders is for people aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you.
